MASTERCLASS FAQ’s
Q. So, where are Debbie Brown classes held?
A. Debbie Brown teaches around the country and around the world but likes to hold some classes in the West London home as it’s convenient and easily accessible by public transport. The classes in West London/Surrey borders are held in the back room studio where most of the cakes are created and the room is comfortable with lots of light.

Q. Why don't you have your exact location online?
A. As this is a home based business this information needs to be private and only for students that book. Ashford, Surrey (Middlesex) is the town and is easily accessible by public transport from the centre of London and is only 10 minute drive from London Heathrow Airport (British Airways' Terminal 5).

Q. There are two Ashford’s when I search online, which one are you?

A. Please don’t be confused with the Ashford in Kent (Ashford International). We have had deliveries go there by mistake and it is a long way from where we actually are. If you search online then use Ashford Surrey, sometimes Middlesex is stated but this is only a postal address as the county of Middlesex was fazed out years ago. We are West London/Surrey borders. London Heathrow is just above and Staines town is to the left if you’re trying to find us on a map.

Q. How do I book a class?
A. If you wish to make a class booking, please email first to enquire about availability as places are extremely limited. At the moment Debbie Brown Ltd., does not take card payments but online payment can be made either through direct bank transfer or through PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account to book a class or purchase a gift voucher, you can use your credit or debit card on the secure PayPal website).

Q. Can I cancel a booked class?
A. You may but will forfeit any deposits paid. Apologies for this but as classes book up weeks in advance cancellations mean that the place cannot be given to someone else. In certain circumstances Debbie Brown Ltd., can move the non-refundable deposit onto an alternative class (subject to availability).

Q. Are there any sugarcraft cake decorating shops nearby?
A. Actually no. You can purchase basics here at Debbie Brown Ltd., although the stock is limited. If you’re going into London then Jane Asher’s shop in Chelsea has some supplies although the shop is small, but does offer Debbie Brown students a generous 10% discount. Squires Kitchen in Farnham Surrey, Blue Ribbons in East Molesey near Hampton Court and Pipedreams in Eton Wick near Windsor are all around a 30 minute drive by car from Ashford, Surrey.

Q. I am staying in London for your classes can you recommend somewhere to stay?
A. There are many hotels in London to suit your budget. I usually recommend students stay nearer the venue although trains out of London Waterloo to the venue make the journey extremely easy. With the underground network it is easy to get to London Waterloo mainline station where trains out to Ashford (Middlesex) Surrey leave every half hour. Use the London Waterloo to Windsor and Eton line and the journey takes around 30-40 minutes, depending on the stopping service. On occasion the Reading train stops also but the information board will tell you if this is so. From Ashford (Middlesex) Surrey station it is an easy fifteen minute walk but there is also a cab office at the station if you prefer to take a taxi.

Q. I would prefer to stay close to the where the classes are being held, can you recommend nearby accommodation?
A. There is no accommodation in Ashford Surrey at the moment. Staines town is extremely close where there are a few hotels, including a Travelodge www.travelodge.co.uk along with Thames Lodge (Mercure) www.mercurethameslodge.eurobookings.com There is also a Travelodge in Feltham, another neighboring town. Other hotels in Staines include The Swan Hotel and The Anne Boleyn Hotel. I usually recommend students stay in the pretty tourist town of Windsor which is four stops away from Ashford Surrey on the mainline railway. This town has lots to offer with boat rides along the river and the famous Windsor Castle dominating the town centre. There is a Travelodge also but many students have stayed at the Harte and Garter which is opposite the castle and have been very happy http://www.akkeronhotels.com/Hotels/Southern-England/The-Harte-and-Garter-Hotel although as Windsor is a tourist town there is a plethora of choice where to stay.

Q. I am flying in from London Heathrow especially for the class, how do I get to the venue?
A. I recommend that you do not take a taxi direct from the airport. Ashford Surrey is classed as ‘outer London’ so taxi’s can charge whatever they like and often charge excessive amounts. I can let you have a local cab (private taxi) number where you can call from the airport and they will come and collect you. The cost of this should be around £20.

Q. I want to travel by car, is there any parking available?
A. This is a residential area with no restrictions free street parking.

Q. What is the minimum age for participants?
A. 16 years is the minimum age for participants unless in special circumstances and accompanied by a parent I will accept from 14 years.

Q. Do I need to bring any equipment to the class?
A. Usually if the class is cake sculpture then a cake is required, or sometimes a cake dummy can be substituted. Also required is cake filling/crumb coat, either buttercream or similar if using cake, the quantity of sugarpaste and a board and suitable box. All other requirements are supplied. I can arrange these requirements for you, please email to enquire.

Q. Should I bring lunch?

A. Yes. We will break for 30 minutes at lunchtime, usually around 1pm, please bring a packed lunch. Please note that there are no facilities nearby to purchase anything during the short lunch break so please either bring a lunch with you or purchase before the class.

Q. What happens if I am early for a class?
A. If you are early, I might just be still putting on my lippy and won't be able to let you in. If I answer the door in that state it would probably frighten you off! So to be safe, there’s a large Tesco’s on the opposite side of the A30 and also some small cafés in Ashford town centre along with smaller supermarkets. I expect students to start arriving any time from 09.30am.

Q. Is it ok for me to record the class on a video recorder, mobile phone or camera?
A. I'm afraid not.

Q. Is it ok for me to take pictures during the class?
A. Yes, as long as other participants do not have issues with it. Please DO NOT post pictures on Facebook or other social networking sites/websites without prior consent.
